Match reports 2006/07
13th May 2007
Middleton 5 a side Tournament.
Brayton Belles A team went into this tournament with a squad of only five girls who played six games in total, over a period of just 3 hours. To get to the final and lose by the narrowest of margins was a magnificent achievement and a credit to the determination of all the girls who took part.
In the league section the Belles easily disposed of Middleton, Scarborough, and Preston with a draw against Hessle turning out to be a one sided affair in which Brayton could not turn their superiority into goals.
The key to Braytons success was the discipline that every player showed in keeping to the game plan. Jenny Dunn was towering in defence snuffing out any hint of danger from opposition attacks while inspiring a number of Braytons. Fay Hawe was tireless in midfield, setting up goalscoring opportunities while still able to track back to make important tackles. Hannah Buck led the way with 5 goals and ran herself into the ground for the cause. Jenny Shakesby was rock solid in defence, making well timed tackles and also a number of important saves between the sticks. Laura Sanderson led the line all day, linking the play and setting up chances for team mates.
Brayton having won their group, easily prevailed in the semi final. However the final against Scarborough proved to be a game too far as the effects of a small squad playing in every game finally told. In a contest that could have gone either way, Brayton went down fighting 1-0 even hitting the post with a minute to go.
Every player can be proud of their efforts on the day and to let in only one goal in the whole tournament was testimony to the teamwork and character that the girls showed throughout the day.

Brayton Belles U16s Match Report
12/05/07 Scarborough Ladies 3 Brayton Belles 1
With both teams battling for the runners up place this had all the makings of a close game. The first half didnt disappoint as both sides battled well with the in form defense of Yorke, OFarrell, Howcroft and J Shakesby in front of keeper Thompson where all looking strong. The dead lock was finally broken as Scarborough sprung the offside trap with a superb through ball to leave a simple tap in beyond the advancing Thompson. Sanderson came close to equalizing as her stunning turn and volley was pushed onto the cross bar and B Shakesbys close range shot was also parried away by the Scarborough keeper in unbeatable form.
The second half started in the same vain with the play bouncing from end to end. The equalizer finally came from a free kick awarded in favour of Hawe, who had started another mazy run down the left. Buck swung the ball in to the path of Burton whose first time strike hit the post and bounced kindly for Sanderson to tap in.
Dunn, Buck and B Shakesby battled away in midfield to try and gain the upper hand however as Scarborough brought on the fresh legs the Belles began to tire with home team taking the lead from a long range shot as the defense failed to close down. In the dying seconds the home side struck again from a well worked corner to secure the vital win.
5th May 2007
Brayton Belles U16 2 - 5 Hull City U16
Brayton defended with strength and commitment throughout this match against league champions Hull City. Grace O'Farrell and Becky Howcroft bossed the central defence and Jenny Shakesby and Daneka York covered the flanks stopping Hull in their tracks. It took a wonder goals from midfielder Hannah Buck who twisted and turned her way passed several City players and lobbed the stranded keeper with a 30 yard shot. The Belles could have doubled their score with Jenny Dunn, Pippa Burton and Fay Hawe all coming close.
Eventually Hull got lucky when Keeper Danielle Thompson and Becky Howcroft collided with a City attacker. The ball popped out of the scrum and dropped to the feet of a waiting City attacker who tapped the ball into the Brayton net. The Belles then dug deep and once again the skills of Hannah Buck kicked in when she blasted the ball into the bottom corner of the Hull goal to give Brayton a 2 - 1 lead at half time.
The second half saw Hull city turn on the style and soon equalised. Brayton again came close with Beth Shakesby testing the keeper. However it was Hull who eventually broke the Brayton defence and finished 5 - 2 winners.
The belles travel to Scarborough Ladies next week knowing that a draw will give them a much deserved runners up spot.
28th April 2007 (Cup final day)
Brayton Belles U12's 2 - Fulford U12's 0
A fantastic end to the season saw the U12's lift the cup. If anything promotes working and trying hard, how about the fact that 5 of the U12's and 3 of the double winning U11's were this time last year playing their last game of the season for the U12B team without one league win all year. This speaks volumes for both these girls and the new players strengthening the club.
Fulford started brightly attacking Brayton from the start but Haylam Tang continued her impressive end to the season alongside the dependable Jade Roche in defence to ensure Kate Parker in goals had a quiet afternoon. After the initial Fulford flurry Belles dominated the game. Player of the match, Kate Wileman again put in a great performance and was pivotal in most of Belles best moves. Hannah Priddy worked hard and showed some lovely footwork, whilst Jess Bisby worked her flank with pace and determination. Kate Murphy, up against a very good Fulford defence hassled, chased and scrapped for possession. It was only a matter of time until Brayton took the lead and it came from a Kate Wileman pass to Kate Murphy who looked up and knocked a neat ball into the oncoming Jess Bisby who made no mistake in drilling the ball into the back of the net. Four minutes later Kate Wileman spotted the run of Kate Murphy and crossed for the striker to convert her 11th and most important of the season. This essentially ended Fulfords hopes and Belles cruised to half time.
The second half was a little bit scrappy but Brayton were never really in any danger. Ashley Rowe and Megan Hill replaced the first half defence and ensured Brayton kept the clean sheet.Jade Roche showed her versatility by moving into midfield, whilst Sophie Taylor and Kirsty Huggins also came on to help Belles to their victory. Also in the U12's squad were Zoe Ibbitson, Danielle Brown and Jody Lund who broke her foot on Wednesday, all there to complete a fantastic team effort from the U12's.
Belles U15 0 - 0 York City (Belles won 3-1 on penalties)
It took a dramatic penalty shoot out to separate these 2 well matched teams in this York league cup final played at Pocklington on saturday.
Both teams were a credit to the league as the game ebbed and flowed, tension was abound for both sets of supporters and officials, and nails were soon bitten to the quick.
Just as there league game the previous week, York settled the quicker and were the more comfortable on the ball, however they found the Belles defence of Lauren Lofthouse, Shanice Lent and Katy Wood in uncompromising mood. For all york's huff and puff their attacks were dealt with and snuffed out before Chloe Precious in the Belles goal could be threatened. Jess Watts worked tirelessly in midfield to quell the York attacks. Laura Richardson and Stacie Moyle always looked dangerous when they got the ball to their feet up front.
Belles introduced Megan Birch after the interval to add bite in midfield, she made an immediate impact and shot narrowly wide from a corner. The tireless Stacie who worked her socks off upfront also began to make an impression as her class began to tell, warming the York's goalie's hands with rasping long range efforts. York still had their chances however and hit the crossbar late on, but Chloe always looked assured in goal and the team on the ascendancy at full time were the Belles.
In extra time with both teams tiring they cancelled each other out until the final 2 minutes, when Stacie was harshly judged to have handled before slotting in what was thought to be the winner.
The dreaded penalties followed and the Belles showed nerves of steel with perfect penalties from Stacie, Jess and Megan. Chloe made the saves to ensure Belles had the victory and the cup, which were well deserved.
Brayton Belles U11a 1 Poppleton 0
First and second in the league made this a cup final to remember both sides battled with nerves in the first half and neither side were going to give an inch though as the end of the first half drew to a close Brayton who were showing signs of their intensions.
As the second half began it was Brayton who were first to settle down as they began to play some superb football but Poppy began to perform on the counter going close on numerous occasions which kept this game on a knife edge but with extra time looming Poppleton unlocked the Brayton defence and had a golden opportunity to take the lead but were foiled at the last gasp as Belles keeper Bethany Stephenson stuck out a trailing leg to deny them a certain goal.
With Belles rattled they replied almost immediately at the other end as Georgia Southerns persistence paid off as her first effort came rebounding off the Poppleton keeper but she was there in true poachers style to slam the ball home from close range and therefore ending the Poppleton threat and wrapping up the match. Now Belles excellent League and cup double is complete.
21st April 2007
Brayton Belles U15 3 3 York City U15
This match was poised to be a thriller with both teams meeting next weekend in the U15 Cup Final.
York started the game the brighter team carving out some great chances and giving Brayton a display in passing and movement. However, the Brayton defence of Shanice Lent, Katie Wood and Lauren Lofthouse stood its ground blocking the constant attacks from their forwards. Unfortunately the deadlock was finally broken just before half time after Brayton conceded a corner and after a scramble in the box an unlucky deflection went into the back of the Brayton net causing the Belles to once again chase the game in the second half. The Belles came out with more confidence in the second half and put pressure on the York midfield and defence. However York went 2-0 up after a dead ball situation allowed a City forward to cleverly back heel a shot giving goal keeper Chloe no chance. A forced substitution due to injury saw Katie Wood being replaced by loan defender Megan Birch who cemented her reputation as a great player by making some vital tackles in midfield. With only twenty minutes left however York scored their third and understandably thought they had sealed the Victory. But no, the reputation of both the team and the club was being challenged and the Belles refused to accept defeat. A rare attack from Brayton allowed Team Captain Stacie Moyle through on goal and she finally beat the York goal keeper to make it 3-1. Within minutes of the restart Laura Richardson and made a great run to hit a screamer past the York keeper and make it 3-2. With York still in shock after they pressed the self destruct button and only a few minutes left on the clock Brayton went for it and after some great movement from the midfield of Jess Watts and Megan Birch, Laura and Stacie went on the attack with Stacie hitting a low shot to beat the keeper and a brace 3-3. Brayton were on the rampage at this stage and with seconds to go Laura Beth hit a powerful long range shot to smash the crossbar. The game eventually finished 3-3 but it was York that were struggling to believe what they had witnessed in the final stage of the match with the Belles exploding with confidence in the final stages.
Coach Mark Johnson said 3-0 against fellow finalist with only 15 minutes to go most teams would have accepted defeat. Not this team, rest assured these girls will be going to the U15 final with the belief that they will win, and If they show this sort of commitment, teamwork and determination next week I have no doubt they will do it.
Brayton U11 A 6 Heworth 0
Belles under 11 A's signed off their championship winning league campaign with an emphatic victory against an under strength Heworth side. Two first half goals from Georgia Southern and one from Chloe Parkin proved too much for the visitors and by half time Brayton were well in command.
Belles coach showed no mercy and with next weeks cup final in mind made three second half substitutions which turned the heat on even more against the opposition as Belles went into overdrive.
Not to be outdone Ciara McAvoy completed a well earned hat -trick which gave the Bellles the points and completed an excellent game of football. Braytons overall team performance was clinical and decisive which they will all have to repeat if they are to complete their excellent season on top form in next weeks cup final against a much tougher opposition
Pickering U12 v Belles U12 0 - 4
The final league game of the season saw Belles extend their unbeaten run to fifteen games, their last defeat coming on the opening game of the season to Copmanthorpe.
Despite this tremendous record and beating Copmanthorpe in both league and cup since, Brayton will have to settle for runners up in the league.
Again the strength of the U12's squad was emphasised by making 5 changes at half time. A frustrating first half ended 0-0 with Kate Wileman being the only real Brayton threat. Player of the match Haylam Tang along side a determined Kirsty Huggins, played a storming game in defence, earning her an additional stint in the 2nd half. Ashley Rowe, Sophie Taylor and Hannah Priddy worked hard but didn't quite get the breaks. Kate Parker was reassured as ever in goal but in reality had little to do.
The second half saw a much better Belles performance as they battered the Pickering goal, with the front four linking well on many occasions. Kate Wileman settled nerves early on with a well taken goal. This was quickly followed by a Jade Roche drilled shot and a great solo goal from Jody Lund. Jess Bisby was on hand to tap the fourth goal in following a Kate Murphy shot which rebounded off the post. Megan Hill returned from international duties (Florida) to give her normal tenacious performance.
All in all a great season for all the girls with some great new players and some massively improved "old timers" and just a little disappointing not to have won the league.
14th April 2007
Brayton Belles U12's 4 - York R.I. 0
Brayton put in good performance and passed the ball well throughout the game. The strength of numbers was outlined by playing each half with a completely different Belles line up other than the keeper Kate Parker.
Kate Wileman shone in the first half and kept up her fine season with a well taken goal following great interplay with Hannah Priddy. Both, Sophie Taylor and Ashley Rowe came close to making it two but York held out. Kirsty Huggins and Haylam Tang marshalled the defence well for the rare York threats.
In the second half Kate Murphy took advantage of a defensive mistake to tuck away her 10th of the season, Jody Lund finished off a fine solo run with a well taken goal and Jess Bisby's hard work was finally rewarded with Belles fourth goal. Player of the week Jade Roche tried an audacious shot from the half way line and narrowly missed a certain gaol of the season.
Zoe Ibboitson and debutant Danielle worked hard in defence,to snuff out any York resurgance.
Althgough a relatively easy win, it was pleasing to see so much passing and movement from Belles.
Brayton Belles U15 3 - 1 Wigginton Grasshoppers U15
The Brayton U15s produced one of their best performances of the season by beating a strong and ever improving Wigginton side by three goals to one.
With only six players available the Belles were prepared for both a physical and mental battle from the off. The Belles battled well with some great passing and movement but with a player less on the field they constantly struggled to penetrate the Wigginton defence. With some quick thinking required by the coach, Brayton came out for the second half full of confidence only to be rocked on their heels when they conceded a goal early in the second half. The tactical change soon paid off when Jess Watts (player of the match) picked up the ball on the half way line to strike a bullet shot which deluded the Wigginton defence and goal keeper and then rattled the bottom corner of the net. Wiggy then went on to apply even more pressure but the defence of Katie Wood and Shanice Lent combined with some confident and cat like goal keeping by Chloe Precious held firm. The forwards of Laura Richardson and Stacie Moyle went on the prowl up front and soon a route one pass from Katie Wood allowed Stacie Moyle to coolly control and strike the Wigginton net for Braytons second. The strikers then went on the rampage and peppered the Wigginton net, hitting the bar on two occasions. The killer blow came late in the game when a net buster from Stacie made it three.
Coach Mark Johnson said the attitude of the team was the best he has seen all season. With no subs, only six players available and a goal down early in the second half and then to come back and win the game by three goals showed real character and a great team spirit.
BELLES U16 TAKE GIANT STEP FORWARD
AFC Preston 0 - 2 Brayton Belles U16
Brayton won this vital match against third place AFC Preston to give them a great chance of clinching runners up spot in their first ever 11 a side season.
This match was an absolute cracker with both teams fighting hard to gain control. Player of the match Pippa Burton twisted and turned her way down the right wing throughout the game causing havoc in the Preston half whenever she touched the ball. Dunn and the Shakesby twins fought hard to disrupt the confident Preston midfield. Finally after a good cross from Hawe and through the chaos in the penalty area Emma Knowles popped up to sneak the ball into the net to give Brayton a 1 - 0 half time lead.
In the second half Brayton changed their shape which allowed Buck to take control of the midfield area. O'Farrell, Howcroft, Yorke and Dunn finally shut up shop allowing Preston only a few chances which keeper Thompson confidently dealt with. The killer blow came from a well worked move ending in a rocket of a shot from Hannah Buck giving the keeper no chance and putting the game out of Prestons reach. Laura Sanderson ran amok up front coming close on several occasions putting in a fantastic performance which deserved a goal.
Brayton Belles 0 0 Fulford
Bratyon U14s finished the season with a well earned draw against Fulford. Both sides played good football in patches but a draw always looked on the cards. Brayton looked to have taken the lead when Natalie Fostons shot hit the crossbar but was ruled not to have crossed the line by the ref.
Braytons player of the week Rachel Huggins made 2 fine saves in the 2nd half to ensure the score remained 0 0.

31st MARCH 2007
BELLES U11A WIN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
Brayton Belles U11A team became champions of the Connexions York Girls League with a fine 5 - 0 win over the Belles B team.
This match was by no means a walk over for the A team who needed a draw to secure to league title. Belles B team fought hard throughout the match and enjoyed some stylish football themselves coming close to scoring on several occasions. However it was to be the Belles A teams day with Evie Smyth and Izy Forth bagging two well taken goals and Georgia Southern netting the fifth to send their supporters wild with excitement.
This was Braytons first under 11s league trophy and promises not to be their last. The U11A Coach Dennis Stephenson said "Players from both teams have excelled all season and the rapid development, especially from the younger players has been fantastic" One of the U11B coaches Richard Bromley has been impressed with the enthusiasm of all the U11s this season and stated "the girls have shown remarkable skill and teamwork over the season and more importantly have really enjoyed every minute of it"
Brayton U11A now look forward to the League cup final on 28th April. Hoping to achieve a league and cup double.
Hull City 6 Belles U16 2
Despite losing this match to Hull City the Belles performance was by far their best so far this season.
Brayton got off to a flying start and took the lead on eight minutes after a quick passing move involving Jenny Dunn and Hannah Buck who slid the ball into the path of on running Pippa Burton who blasted the ball past a stunned City keeper. Brayton nearly scored a second when Laura Sanderson shot wide. However Hull counter attacked and equalised after 20 minutes. Becky Howcroft and Grace O'Farrell snuffed out the City attacks with confidence until a minute before half time when Hull finally broke through the Belles determined defence and finished with a stylish goal to lead 2 - 1 at the interval.
Brayton again came out flying in the second half and Pippa Burton scored her second after another fine through ball from Buck to give the Belles a deserved equaliser. At this point Brayton dominated the match with Faye Hawe, Sanderson and Dunn peppering the Hull goal. The crucial point coming when Sanderson went clear through only to be obstructed by the City keeper. The Belles shouted penalty the referee ruled play on.
Eventually the Belles ran out of steam, having no subs and losing Dunn through injury Belles played the rest of the match with a player less. City took full advantage and scored four quick goals to give a final score of 6 - 2. The Belles keeper Thompson was outstanding throughout the match and six goals was an injustice to the effort, teamwork and positive attitude all the Belles demonstrated during this very entertaining match.
24th March 2007
Belles teams reach Cup Final.
Brayton Belles 2 Copmanthorpe 0
With Copmanthorpe winning every game other than when Belles beat them back in December, and Brayton being unbeaten since Copmanthorpe won 3-0 on the opening day of the season, this game was always going to be a final in itself.
Copmanthorpe started at a terrific pace and camped in the Brayton half for the first 10 minutes applying wave after wave of pressure. Jade Roche partnered Ashley Rowe in defence and both set the standard for Belles putting in heroic performances to repel the attack. Kate Parker's safe handling calmed nerves, and gradually Brayton started to haul themselves into the game. On 16 minutes, Jody Lund played a great cross field ball to find Hannah Priddy at the far post who cool as you like, slipped it under to keeper for her 9th but most important goal of the season.
Given no reward for their early domination, the goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of Copmanthorpe and Brayton finished the half the stronger team.
The second half was all Brayton with the midfield duo of Kate Wileman and player of the match Jody Lund applying pace, skill and aggression, and the tireless Kate Murphy giving a great demonstration of the benefits of defending from the front. Jess Bisby and Haylam Tang came on to provide fresh legs and both fitted immediately into their roles and put in strong performances.
The second goal came after 27 minutes, Kate Wilemans long shot being spilled by their keeper, and Jody Lund following up to propel both the ball and herself into the back of the net.
Brayton continued to probe and almost got a third as Kate Murphy latched onto a near post corner to force a fine save. With three minutes to go Copmanthorpe finally broke through for a one on one opportunity, but Kate Parker saved brilliantly at the strikers feet to avoid late nerves.
Belles turned in their performance of the season to come away victorious and it was not only a giant performance from the players but also from all the other team members who cheered the team with pride despite not playing themselves.
Sherburn White rose 1 0 Brayton Belles U14
Brayton lost out by a single goal in this highly competitive match,Both defences were on top form and it always looked like 1 goal would settle it. Player of the week Ailsa Stainthorpe was outstanding in defence alongside Rebecca Ryan. Megan Birch came close for Brayton on 2 occasions the 1st with a free kick from the edge of the area which was cleared off the line and the 2nd a fine header from a corner which just looped over the bar.
Sherburn took the lead when Brayton failed to pick up a player from a corner whos first time shot gave Huggins in goal no chance.
Despite hard work from Brennan, Thompson, Priddy and Parkin Brayton were unable to breakthrough and lost by a single goal for the 4th time this season to Sherburn.
Pocklington 0 Belles U15 5
Belles took advantage of a lovely playing surface and produced a high quality performance in this cup semi final. It was obvious all the team were up for this one and it took the impressive Lauren Lofthouse just 2 minutes to drive in a sweet shot to open their account. Within minutes it was 2, Stacie Moyle converting after LauraBeth Richardson put her through with a fantastic defence-splitting pass. At this stage the Belles were dominating play, Stacie and Laura causing mayhem in the Pock defence and with Jess Watts back on song the passing and movement was a joy to watch. Laura added a 3rd before half time and considering their dominance, Pock must have been relieved to be only 3 - 0 down at half time.
The second half continued in the same vein, the Stacie and Laura show continued both scoring quality goals and Stacie nearly broke the crossbar with a superlative strike. When Pock did threaten, Shanice Lent was faultless and Katie Wood returning after a long layoff got stronger and stronger as the game went on. When Pock did peirce the defence, stand in goalie Chloe Precious was very impressive. Well done to all the Belles.
Heworth 0 Brayton Belles U11 A 4
Brayton played to their strengths and eventually wore down the stubborn Heworth side to reach their first ever cup final.Brayton started the stronger and efforts by McAvoy and Southern were to no avail it wasn't until virtually the last kick of the half by Georgia Southern that opened their account and also settled the nerves of the players and the anxious watching parents.
As the second half got under way Belles began to assert themselves and started to play some fluent football, it wasn't long before doubled her account with a superb close range effort to take Brayton two up. Minutes later Ciara McAvoy finally got on the score sheet with a thunderous shot which gave the Heworth keeper no chance.
Braytons fourth by Evie Smythe fooled the Heworth keeper as she misjudged the flight of the ball as Smythe let rip from a tight angle.
Another solid performance by Izzie Forth, Zoe Ribchester and player of the week Hannah (Ronaldo) Argyle ensured Keeper Beth Stephenson didn't have much to do as they controlled the final third of the pitch with a commanding performance.
17th March 2007
AFC Preston 2 Brayton Belles U16 2
With Belles clinging to second place and Preston flying high after their emphatic win last time the two met this had all the makings of a close game. The first half didnt disappoint as both sides struggled to get the ball down in the strong winds. Chances were few and far between as Dunn and Burton fought to control the midfield, with Sandersons stunning strike from Knowles cross being the pick of the first half action. Preston, not to be outdone, soon hit back as a momentary lapse from the solid back four of Yorke, OFarrell, G Shakesby, B Shakesby and keeper Thompson gifted the home side an equalizer.
The second half started in the same vain and even with the wind against them Belles began to apply the pressure, with Burton, Dunn and Sanderson all going close before Knowles buried the rebound from her own initial shot. Thompson made amends for the earlier lapse as she tipped two strikes onto the woodwork but could do little to prevent Preston's equalizer as their quick counter was well finished, however tireless running from Hawe, Howcroft and player of the Match OFarrell sealed a well earned draw and maintained their six point cushion in the league!
Heworth 0 Brayton 11a 4
Braytons title aspirations took a step closer with a convincing win at windswept Heworth.
Belles trio of Smythe, Southern and McAvoy dealt superbly with the conditions playing some great football between them on a difficult playing surface.
Player of the week Georgia Southern, was in awesome form as she jinked and dribbled her way through the heart of the Heworth defence on three occasions in the first half to notch up her second hatrick of the season. As half time approached Belles were now fully in control of the game.
Braytons rear guard of Argyle,Ribchester,Backhouse and keeper Stephenson held firm as Heworth battled hard in the second half to reduce the margin, but once again Southern had the final say as she fired past the Heworth keeper for the fourth time to put one hand on the league trophy.
With another repeat performance required this time in the cup semi final could see a club first for the girls with a possible league and cup double on the cards.
10th March 2007
Brayton Belles U14s 1 1 Bishopthorpe
Brayton can consider themselves unlucky not to have come away with a win in a match where they had a lot of possession and created more chances than Bishopthorpe.
Brayton started off well and created several chances, Foston,Brennan and Parkin all had shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes. Huggins in goal along with Stainthorpe, Ryan and Priddy in defence looked untroubled until Bishopthorpe broke forward and took the lead against the run of play.
In typical style Brayton picked themselves up and levelled almost immediately when Jess Thompson hit a shot from long range which sneaked past the Bishopthorpe keeper.
The game followed the same pattern in the 2nd half with player of the week Lucy Parkin having a fine game in midfield. Brayton nearly clamed the points when Megan Birch hit a freekick which hit the post.
Scarborough U16s 2 v Brayton Belles U16s 1
Brayton Belles were beaten by the odd goal in this closely contested semi-final cup game at a windswept hilltop Scarborough.
Games between these 2 sides have been evenly contested this year and the Belles were pleased to get off to a flying start when Emma Knowles got up after being brought down in the box and converted the resultant spot kick after just 2 minutes. It was Scarborough who came back however and a good passing move led to their equaliser. With Hannah Buck and Jenny Dunn working tirelessly in midfield and Laura Sanderson and Emma Knowles were causing the Scarborough defence problems. The pace of Faye Hawe and Pippa Burton were always dangerous but the Scarborough defence held. The Belles conceded the second when a long range effort went into the top corner.
The second half saw both sides battling hard with chances few and far between. The Belles defence was magnificent with player of the week Denika Yorke leading by example. Excellent displays also from Beth and Jenny Shakesby, Rebecca Howcroft and Grace OFarrell kept Scarborough out. With chances few and far between Emma Knowles went very close in the closing 2 minutes and unfortunately it was Scarborough who progressed but all the Brayton players gave 100% and had to be congratulated on a good performance.
3rd March 2007
A black day for the Belles
Brayton Belles lost three key games this week. The U16s lost to top of the league Hull City, the U15s lost 2 - 1 in the title battle against Tadcaster whilst Belles U11B team lost their cup quarter final 1 - 0 to Heworth. Belles U14s also lost 2 - 1 to top of the league Sherburn.
Hull City v Belles U16 17 - 0
Brayton Belles had several chances to get on the score sheet during this game and an outstanding performance by player of the week Laura Sanderson were the only positives from this match as Brayton got hammered by on song Hull City. The day was summed up by Keeper Dani Thompson's match report -
We turned up, had a bit of a kick about. Bish bash bosh- lost 17-0....... Ouch!
Brayton Belles U 11 B 0 1 Heworth
After drawing with Heworth in their last match to gain their first point of the season the Belles were looking for a win in this cup match. Both teams without their first choice goalkeepers, Julia Hegarty stood in for the belles and didnt disappoint and proved to be the player of the week. The defence of Senior, Hughs and Head with Robinson as sweeper all gave solid performances. Hannah Ryan, Samantha Collier and Sophie Hudson in midfield all battled hard to make this anyones game. Katie Todds up front work rate was excellent and gained many chances on goal. It was from a belles chance that Heworth counter attacked and with a 50-50 challenge the ball sat up nicely for the Heworth forward to firmly drive home. Brayton piled on more pressure on but however many chances and shrieks and groans form the willing parents and supporters it wasnt to be.
Belles U15 1 Tadcaster U15 2
This potential title decider was always going to be a tense affair and proved to be. Due to lack of match practice, Belles were slow off the mark and after missing a glorious opportunity were down on 5 minutes from a sweet finish from Tad. At this stage Tad were winning all the 50 - 50's as the Belles looked hesitant and nervous.
They cranked it up however and started to match their counterparts. Stacie Moyle always looking dangerous and causing panic in the Tad defence everytime she got the ball. Chances went begging before Tad increased their lead after hesitance in the Belles defence. Both teams were now causing problems for the oppositions defence and Laura Richardson converted to make it 2 - 1 at half time.
In the 2nd half Tad had most of the ball and played the better football, but all the Belles showed great commitment and worked their socks off creating a barrier that wasn't to be breached again. Shanice Lent was again very impressive and Laura Stevenson was back to her best in goal. The Belles still created chances on the break but found the Tad goalie was also in no mood to be beaten.
Sherburn U12 v Brayton Belles U12 2 - 1
Braytons best performance of the season brought no reward against top of the league Sherburn. With an out standing performance especially by player of the match goal keeper Rachael Huggins who made several excellent saves throughout the match. After 10 minutes Poppy Brennan managed to put the ball in the back of the net by placing the ball under the Sherburn keeper making it 1-0 to Brayton. Soon after Sherburns number ten managed to bring it back home for Sherburn making it 1-1 at half time.
In the second half Jess Thompson had a shot from the half way line and managed to hit the post. However Sherburn soon made it 2-1 from another good goal by their number ten. Megan Birch hit the bar with a powerful header from a well taken Brayton corner. Sherburn had the chance to finish the match when they were awarded a penalty but shot wide. Braytons solid defense of Megan Birch, Alice Priddy, Rebecca Ryan and Ailsa stainthorpe didnt give the strong Sherburn attackers any more chances and even though Braytons Lucy Parkin and Natalie Fosnett set up some late chances Brayton couldnt find an equalizer.
24th February 2007
Wigington U12 2 Brayton Belles U12 2
A great game of football took place at Mill Lane, between two good teams. Belles started the brightest, Hannah Priddy and Kate Wileman catching the eye with some good interchanges of passing. However, the warning signs were there to see as Wiggington countered several times with pace and purpose.Good hands early on by keeper Kate Parker kept Belles in the game but there was little she could do as Wiggington took the lead with a well worked goal on 8 minutes. Brayton responded well with an attacking spell and Kate Wileman drilled a loose ball home on 11 minutes to equalise. Wigginton then took the game by the scruff with a period of pressure which Brayton fortunately weathered but again Brayton succumed to the counter on 17 minutes as the defence found themselves outnumbered and Wiggington deservedly took the 2-1 lead into the second half.
Brayton showed real character and played a great second half. The rotating defence marshalled by player of the match Megan Hill and ably assisted by Ashley Rowe and Haylam Tang stood firm to all that Wiggington could throw, Kate Murphy chased every lost cause and Kate Wileman started to boss the centre of the park. Brayton got their reward on 31 minutes when Jade Roche found the run of Kate Murphy with an inch perfect pass, which the striker duly despatched into the corner of the goal to put Brayton level again.
Cue the Brayton onslaught and a nail biting finish. Brayton won corner after corner. The Wiggington keeper saved well from both Kate Wileman and Kate Murphy and the wide midfielders Hannah Priddy and Jade Roche repeatedly picked up claerances to keep the pressure on. However Wiggington held firm and the although Brayton finished stronger, the draw was fair overall as neither team deserved to lose.
Belles U16s go Goal crazy
Brayton Belles U16s trounced bottom of the league team Middleton 24 - 0 after a brilliant team display.
The Belles took the lead from an own goal in the third minute and never looked back. Pin point passing, quick through balls and searching crosses especially from Pippa Burton put the Middleton defence under constant pressure. Braytons top scorer Emma Knowles had a field day scoring an unbelievable 12 goals to put her seasons total at 60 so far. Striking partner Laura Sanderson bagged 6, whilst Jenny Dunn and Hannah Buck scored 2 each. However the goal of the match came from winger Fay Hawe who darted past two Middleton defenders stepped to the side of another and blasted the ball into the top corner leaving the keeper in a muddy heap on the floor.
Braytons' defenders had little to do but when Middleton did attack they were dealt with confidently by Keeper Dani Thompson, Beth & Jenny Shakesby, Danika Yorke and Becky Howcroft.
Belles hot shot Emma Knowles said she puts most of her 60 goals down to the fantastic work rate and passing from the rest of the team and can't wait for the top of the league clash with leaders Hull City next week.

Brayton Belles U11 B 1 Heworth 1
You would have thought they had won the league after this match but to get their first point of the season and to nearly win the game was a fantastic achievement for the U11 leagues youngest squad. They have had so much defensive match practice that the defence of Senior and Hughes and the quality of goalkeeper and captain Autumn Freeman thwart the best of attackers. Player of the week Gemma Robinson shone out with crucial tackles and distributing the ball and with one of her trademark fake left and go right moves to take her past three players and one on one with only the Heworth goalkeeper to beat, her leg back ready to shoot that it was left to the referee to blow for half time to stop her from getting her first goal of the season. The second half continued with belief of winning the game but Heworth scored to stun the Belles. Credit to them the battled back to produce some super play from Katie Todd and taking some great corners. Gemma wasn`t to be beat and putting herself in the right place to smash home near the end of the match to receive a roar likened to full volume on surround sound watching the Lion King .
Belles under 16s back on form
Hessle Rangers 4 Brayton Belles 8
It took just twelve seconds for Emma Knowles to get of the mark in this tense clash following last week disappointing result against Preston. However it was Hessle who kicked on and grabbed an early equalizer and were beginning to look the strongest. Stern defending from OFarrell, Dunn, Yorke and J Shakesby and safe hands from Thompson weathered the early storm from the home team!
As The Belles settled down, their confidence grew and the goals soon followed as Sanderson broke through to take the lead and Knowles added her second. Rangers midfield star pulled one back as she strolled through unchallenged, but Bucks solo effort in the closing minutes of the first half restored the deficit.
The second half brought much the same as Hessle pulled one back with a long floating shot before excellent pressure from B Shakesby and Sanderson left the latter with an easy tap in. Hawe and Burtons tireless running on the flanks saw both come close before B Shakesbys inch perfect pass put Burton in to finish in style.
Rangers could respond no more as their midfield was well and truly wrapped up by the in form Buck, which allowed Belles to romp home with two further goals from Knowles, the second courtesy of Player of the Match, Howcrofts through ball.
Belles U12s reach semi finals
Brayton were far from their best in this game, partly due to poor passing but also partly due to a plucky performance from York R.I. who had no intention of rolling over easily.
First half efforts on target were few. Hannah Priddy and Kate Murphy came close and a trademark long range Kate Wileman effort hit the post. However the only goal of the first half deservedly fell to player of the match Jade Roche who swept home after Kate Murphy found herself in space and played an intelligent pass across the box.
The second half was a little brighter. York R.I. were unlucky to concede an own goal but it was the quality of the in swinging corner from Jade Roche that contributed greatly. The defenses of Ashley Rowe and Megan Hill swapped with Kirsty Huggins and debutant Zoe Ibbitson at half time with all looking comfortable. Haylam Tang came on in midfield, Sophie Taylor up front and Jess Bisby impressed again in right midfield to make a total of 10 outfield players contributing to this victory.
Belles U15 storm into the semis
Belles eased into the semis with a fine workman like performance. Early exchanges were even, both teams prodding and probing for an opening. Gradually however, the Belles began to dominate possession and began peppering the Wiggy goal. The best move of the match culminated in the opening goal, some great passing and moving from the whole team found Stacie Moyle on the right hand touch-line, who still had a lot to do before knocking in a pinpoint cross from the corner and Chloe Precious rose majestically to head home.
The Belles continued to play the better football but were unable to finish off some really good moves. They were made to pay 5 minutes from half time when the whole defense switched off for a second and Wiggy slipped in to level.
Just before half time parity was restored when Stacie was 1st to respond to a headed effort coming off the crossbar to make it 2 - 1.
In the second half, both teams looked dangerous when going forward and the next goal was crucial. The ever dependable Stacie came up with the goods making space for herself before slotting home.
There was still work to be done however, Laura Stevenson had to make a superb save to her right hand side to keep the ball out, and the man of the match Megan Birch had to make a breathtaking last stitch goal saving tackle to enable the Belles to keep their quest of the double on track.

Belles U12 8 Poppleton 0
Brayton played extremely well and dominated from start to finish. Ashley Rowe and Haylam Tang mopped up early danger, leaving Kate Parker in goals a virtual spectator. However, the first half will go down as a "kate" performance by Belles. Kate Wileman scored all the first three goals for Brayton including a superb lofted shot for the opener, before Kate Murphy took over to bag the next couple with some cool finishing to give Brayton a 5-0 half time score.
The team was reshuffled at half time with Sophie Taylor coming on up front, Kirsty Huggins coming on in defence and Jess Bisby making a debut in midfield. Sophie battled hard throughout the second half and following excellent work from Jade Roche was on hand to deservedly turn the cross goal bound for her first goal of the season.
Poppleton were reduced to six players after about 25 minutes and Belles responded by withdrawing a player to make 6 a side. This meant Kirst Huggins was the sole defender as Brayton adopted a 1-3-1 formation. Poppleton never gave up and tried to attack but Kirsty put in a tenacious performance to earn her Player of the Match.
The neat and tidy play throughout the game from Hannah Priddy was rewarded with Braytons seventh and her seventh of the season, before the impressive Jess Bisby topped off a fine half with a coolly executed goal towards the end of the game.
Belles U15 2 Tadcaster 2
Second placed Belles travelled to the unbeaten league leaders knowing defeat would just about hand the title to the hosts.
As it was defeat was not on the agenda, the Belles took the game to Tad from the start and played their best football of the campaign with everybody contributing massively to an impressive performance.
To be honest only the best was good enough as Tad are a quality side with dangerous players with good technique all over the pitch.
Belles drew 1st blood Chloe Precious bundling in a pin point cross from hard working Stacie Moyle. Belles had the inituitive at this stage and a number of chances went begging before against the run of play the Belles failed to clear the ball in defence and a fine drive slivered under Laura Stephensons body to level the score.
There then followed concerted pressure from Tad and Lauren Lofthouse was unfortunate to put in her own net when under intense pressure following a corner. Lesser teams would have folded at this point but not the belles and they deservedly drew level just before the break through another close range ever effort from the lively Chloe, who is starting to get the knack of being at the right place of the right time.
The second half was pulsating-nail biting stuff the defensive trio of Lotti Johnson, Lauren and player of the week Shanice Lent were massive, snuffing out everything Tad threw at them. Whilst the clearest chances came the Belles way, no more goals were scored and a draw was a fair result. With the title still up for grabs watch this space.
Belles U16s get a Preston slammer
Brayton Belles 2 AFC Preston 7
Brayton went into this game against third place Preston full of confidence and took only 15 seconds to take the lead. A well worked passing move ended with hot shot Emma Knowles smashing the ball home. However Preston played their way back into the match and levelled on 10 minutes. Shortly after the Belles conceded the second and a penalty gave Preston a 3 - 1 half time lead.
Brayton livened up in the second half and pulled the score back to 3 - 2 when Laura Sanderson scored straight from her corner kick. This should have been the boost Brayton needed but it wasn't to be. Preston dominated the rest of the match finishing 7 - 2 victors.
The Belles travel to Hessle next week knowing that they must perform much better if they are to hold onto second place in the league.

Rebbecca Ryan and Ailsa Stain Thorpe kept Fulford at bay for most of the 2nd half but were helpless when an unstoppable shot beat Huggins in goal.Despite good efforts at both ends the game ended at 1 1.
Brayton Belles u11A 2 Fulford 0
Brayton took another giant step towards the league title with a determined performance against close rivals Fulford.
Both teams battled hard to play good football in the heavy conditions and the first half ended in stalemate,as the second half began Brayton eventually unlocked the visitors defence with a close range effort scored by Evie Smyth.

20th January 2007
Bishopthorpe 2 2 Brayton Belles U14
Despite the strong wind making ball control difficult this game was played at a terrific pace with both sides playing good passing football.
Bishopthorpe raced into a 2 0 lead after only 10 minutes, catching the Brayton defence cold with 2 sharp passing moves. Captain Ailsa Stainthorpe had to be withdrawn with a injury after 10 mins, Jess Thompson filled the gap in defence along side Megan birch and Alice Priddy.
Brayton then took the game to Bishopthorpe, Player of the week Natallie Fostont picked the ball up in her own half and went on a run beating 3 players before hitting the shot just wide of the goal. This set the tone with Brayton creating several chances. The breakthrough came when Megan Birch hit a long range shot which was pushed over the line by Poppy Brennan. Lucy Parkin got the equaliser a few minutes later with a fine shot from the edge of the area.
The 2nd half was entertaining with both sides looking for the winner, Rachael Huggins in goal made a string of fine saves. The Bishopthorpe keeper was outstanding making saves from Fostont ,Hodgson, Brennan and Birch to keep the scores level at 2 - 2
13th January 2007
Belles U15 3-0 Wigginton
The Belles had to be on there mettle to beat the tough hard to beat Grasshoppers. They started brightly and quickly took the initiative culminating in a well taken goal from top scorer and player of the week Stacie Moyle, she won the ball on the half way line before driving forward and smashing the ball into the back of the net
There then followed a period of concerted pressure from Wiggy and when defender Katy Wood had to go off injured the Belles lost there shape Wiggy huffed and puffed but to no avail and it took another cracker to ease the nerves before half time.
The Belles regrouped during the break and were by far the better side in the 2nd half Shanice Lent and Jess Watts soaked up everything in defence and when required Laura Stevenson was as reliable as ever and with Lotti Johnson and Lauren Lofthouse working tirerlessly in midfield it was only a matter of time before Chloe Precious secured the win with a well taken goal.
Brayton Belles 0 1 Sherburn
Brayton lost out by a single goal in this closely fought clash against league leaders Sherburn.
The Brayton defence were solid but had to work hard as Sherburn had the lions share of possession and always looked like the side which would score, Hugginns in goal had to make several fine saves throughout the match, Stainthorpe,Priddy and Ryan all worked hard in defence.
Player of the week Megan Birch was outstanding in midfield but the brayton forwards failed to make an impression on the Sherburn defence.

Belles U12 v Whitely 2 - 1
Brayton started the match in a lively fashion with the midfield trio of Hannah Priddy, Jade Roche and Kate Wileman dominating the Whitley midfield. Good passing and possession lead to the opening goal on 8 minutes driven home low and hard by Kate Wileman. Ashley Rowe bagged her first of the season quickly after, with a long range effort which squirmed in the corner under the Whitley keeper.
However just as that should have signalled a comfortable Brayton victory, Whitley struck back with a well taken finish.
The second half was a tense affair, with Brayton losing the battle for domination in the midfield. Kate Murphy was denied a goal to settle nerves following an excellent close range block by the Whitley keeper, and Kate Wileman also came close. Later on, Sophie Taylor was also agonisingly close to poking home a winner, but it wasn't to be and the latter stages of the match were all Whitleys' with corner after corner putting Brayton under pressure. However, Player of the match Haylam Tang showed excellent concentration along with Megan Hill in the defence and Kirsty Huggins as keeper to deny Whitley a late equaliser and help Brayton to an important victory.

Brayton started the new year with their best performance of the season so far.
Up against a very strong Scarborough team the Belles took control after 20 minutes of tough tackling and determination from both sides. Braytons three centre backs of Jenny Dunn, Jenny Shakesby and Grace O'Farell stopped the Scarborough forwards in their tracks and controlled the game throughout.

The 2nd half continued as the 1st with the Belles peppering the Pock goal hitting the woodwork at least 4 times before Lauren added a brace.A dodgy 10 mins let Pock in with 2 soft goals before the Belles reaffirmed there superiority with a Chloe bullet.

Wetherby 1 Brayton Belles U11B 2
This friendly match gave Belles a rare opportunity to test themselves against a team equal in terms of age and experience. Problems with player availability left Belles needing to borrow a couple of subs from the U11As. However, Brayton started with a great sense of purpose, with Katie Todd bursting through the middle of the field and slotting the ball past the Wetherby goalie within the first two minutes. Brayton reacted well to going ahead, keeping their focus and continuing to pile on the pressure; they soon reaped the rewards with Imogen Hetherington thumping in a shot from short range to put Belles 2-0 up. Wetherby fought hard to come back, forcing several saves from keeper Autumn Freeman, and eventually with a weak shot that bobbled awkwardly over the line. Belles continued to apply pressure with some storming runs from player of the match Sammi Collier and 'free transfer' Zoe Ribchester, but weren't able to capitalise in spite of numerous shots from Collier, Todd and Hetherington. Wetherby's further attempts were ably dealt with by Grace Priddy and Chelsea Head, supporting the other 'free transfer' Beth Stephenson in goal in the second half. Belles are now looking forward to another positive performance in their Cup match at home against Heworth next week. The tide is turning! Many thanks to Zoe Ribchester and Beth Stephenson for volunteering their services.
Fulford U12's 1 Brayton Belles U 12's 1
Man of the match Kate Parker made three fabulous saves to spare Brayton blushes in a game where they never quite found thier recent form.
Kate Murphy,Kate Wileman and Jade Roche all came close including hitting a post and Hannah Priddy several times produced opportunity creating passes, but it was the fine diving save from Kate Parker which denied Fulford thier lead at half time that was the highlight of the half.
Brayton rallied a little at the start of the second half and thier best spell of pressure resulted in a Kate Wileman pass to Kate Murphy who just managed to sqeeze the ball into the net. Brayton seemed to relax and pass the ball better , Kate Wileman coming close on two occasions and Ashley Rowe put her shot just wide. However 1-0 proved to be too slender a lead as a long throw cuaght Brayton napping and with the Fulford striker bearing down on goal, Kate Parker pulled off another fantastic save but the rebound landed to a gleeful Fulford player to level with a minute left on the clock.
Megan Hill provided the usual determination and Haylum Tang again used her pace and put in a good performance. A special mention for Sophie Taylor and Kirsty Huggins who despite not playing in the match played with great enthusiasm in the 2-0 friendly win afterwards.Sophie's running and determination in particular were noted by all.

As it was only one goal seperated the teams at half time a cracker from Stacie Moyle. The team continued to work extremely hard for each other and were rewarded by 2 more goals scored by Stacie and super sub Chloe Precious. Lauren Lofthouse and Jess Watts worked well in defence and insured Laura Stephenson in goal had a quiet game, whilst Lotti Johnson, Laura Richardson and Shanice Lent prodded and probed in midfeild.

Brayton Belles U12's 4 Copmanthorpe U12's 0
A great team performance saw Brayton put four past previously unbeaten League leaders Copmanthorpe and draw level on points at the top of table.
The early exchanges involved good passing from both sides. Copmanthorpe attacks were dealt with well by keeper Kate Parker, and the defence of Ashley Rowe and Megan Hill who made some tenacious tackles early on.
Kate Wileman started to boss the midfield for Brayton, and swapped several passing moves neatly with the impressive Hannah Priddy. The tireless, Jade Roche was asked to mark the Copmanthorpe key player and selflessly stuck to her task with great effect. The combination of the midfielders was srarting to show and with 10 minutes gone, Kate Wileman latched onto a loose ball and threaded a pass through to Kate Murphy whose shot was blocked by the keepers legs but who followed up the rebound to give Brayton the lead. Four minutes later Kate Murphy bagged her second following further Brayton pressure.
Haylum Tang joined the defence shortly before half time and immediately settled into an assured performance.
The second half started brightly. Copmanthorpe seemed to visibly tire, and Brayton turned the screw. Hannah Priddy showed great footwork in the build up to the third goal, exchanging passes with Kate Wileman before follwing up a long range Brayton shot to poke home her sixth of the season. Shortly after, Man of the Match, Kate Murphy netted her hatrick following up on a Kate Wileman shot and the points were in the bag.
Brayton made a double switch bringing Ashley Rowe back on into midfield and playing Sophie Taylor up front. The combination nearly paid dividends with Ashley Rowe twice surging forward into the box only to see both attemps hit the side netting.

Bishopthorpe U14 v Brayton Belles U14 1 - 1
Braytons Battling performance earned them a draw against Bishopthorpe, both sides played positive attacking football. Braytons midfield of Birch,Parkin, fostont and ODonnel passed the ball around well but it took a wonder goal from player of the week Jess Thompson to break the deadlock, seconds after coming on as a sub she struck a first time shot from near the halfway line which beat the keeper to put the Belles 1 0 up.
Bishopthorpe drew level just before half time. Both sides had good chances to the win, Huggins in goal made an outstanding save with defenders Priddy and Ailsthorpe on top form. York City U15 v Brayton Belles U15 3 1
Belles couldn't have played any worse with an abject 1st half display, they were outplayed but more disappointedly outfought by a bright York outfit who simply wanted it more and were deservedly 3 - 0 up at half time.
After a few home truths at half time, the second half performance was allot better, but Brayton left themselves far too much to do and York worked tirelessly to keep them at bay.
They finally did crack 5 minutes from time and conceded an own goal. But it was too little too late for the Selby side whose long unbeaten run came to an abrupt end.
Brayton Belles U12 v Pickering Town 3 1
A double strike by man of the match Kate Wileman saw Brayton notch their winning run to six games.

Megan Hill and Haylum Tang aided very capably by Kate Parker in goals defended stoutly at this point in the game as Pickering sniffed a comeback. Jade Roche retired from the game injured and was replaced by Sophie Taylor who showed some good touches. York R.I. U12's 0 Brayton Belles 3
A very windy day made for difficult conditions.Brayton dominated throughout but were denied a lead at half time. Man of the match Kate Murphy combined well on several occasions with Hannah Priddy but good keeping and narrow misses denied a Brayton lead. The second half proved more lucrative as Brayton played with the wind behind them. Jade Roche scored directly from a corner and Kate Wileman powerfully headed home a Brayton second in quick succession. Further chances were missed but an own goal five minutes from time gave the score a more realistic indication of the Brayton pressure.
Although not the busiest game for keeper Kate Parker and the defence of Ashley Rowe, Megan Hill and Haylum Tang, it should be noted that this quartet have now played 3 games and 2 hours of football since the last time Brayton conceded a goal - a great record in anyones book.
Sophie Taylor and Kirsty Huggins came on as substitutes and showed good determination and effort to cap off a solid team performance.
Fulford 0 Brayton Belles u11 a 1
Despite the very windy conditions brayton managed to keep their impressive current form on track. SCARBOROUGH LADIES U16 5 BRAYTON BELLES U16 0
Brayton were caught sleeping when Scarborough sent a warning shot early on in this match shaking the Brayton crossbar. However the Belles didn't take heed and soon after Scarborough went one up with a well taken shot. At last Brayton woke up and played some excellent football with both Hannah Buck and Beth Shakesby playing some fine through balls to the on running Sanderson and Burton, both coming close to equalising. Indeed Sanderson did eventually equalise, cooley sliding the ball past the on coming keeper. The Belles could have taken the lead just before half time when Fay Hawe sent a screaming shot just wide.
The Second half saw the game totally change. A strong head on wind became Scarborough's extra player as they pushed Brayton back for most of the match. Valiant efforts from Jenny Shakesby and Grace O'Farrell and some acrobatic saves from keeper Danielle Thompson kept the score level. But eventually Scarborough scored to take a 2 - 1 lead. The Belles stayed in the game until the final few minutes when they at last caved into the relentless pressure, letting in three late goals. Final score Scarbough 5 Belles 1. Player of the match went to the outstanding Hannah Buck.
Brayton Belles 15s 1 - 0 Poppleton
The very windy conditions made flowing football just about impossible but it didn't spoil a very entertaining game between two of the fancied teams in the division. Both had quality throughout their sides and were evenly balanced, cancelling each other out in crucial positions.
The game was three quaters over when Chloe Precious slotted a perfect pass to the ever impressive Stacie Moyle who still had alot to do before driving an unstoppable shot past the Pop goalkeeper. Poppleton then showed why they will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season and put immense preassure on Shanice Lent and Lauren Lofthouse in the Belles defence, who stood firm magnificently until the final whistle.
This was a great performance by the whole team and bodes well for the future.
Brayton Belles U14 0 1 Sherburn
Brayton lost out by a single goal in this entertaining encounter with league leaders Sherburn. Brayton played there best football so far this season despite the windy conditions,The first half was tight with both sides having good chances, player of the week Racheal Huggins had another fine game in goal,Lucy Parkin was a dynamo in midfield linking up well with fostont and O;donnell.
With 10 minutes remaining Brayton conceded from a Sherburn corner when the ball cruelly came of a Brayton player for an own goal, despite a late rally Brayton could not draw level and went down 1 0 for the 2nd week running.

Hessle Rangers U16 2 Brayton Belles U16 5
Brayton dominated most of the first half of this very competitive match.
Striker Laura Sanderson set off in lightening fashion coming close to scoring after just 30 seconds. Indeed after several near misses Sanderson eventually smashed the back of the Hessle net with a bullet of a shot. Emma Knowles soon got herself on the score sheet running onto a well judged pass from Beth Shakesby and slotting the ball home. A Fay Hawe cross was met by a cool Sanderson finish to give the Belles a commanding 3 - 0 lead. Hessle stayed in touch with some brilliant saves from their keeper and just before half time scored from a free kick on the edge of the Brayton area, giving keeper Thompson no chance.
In the second half Hessle almost turned the match on its head. A fine goal early on making the score 3 - 2 and almost grabbing an equaliser after putting relentless pressure onto the Brayton defence. However solid tackling from Denika Yorke, Emma Cook, Becky Howcroft and captain Grace O'Farrell held the Hessle strikers at bay. The killer goal came from Pippa Burton who latched onto a fierce Sanderson shot giving the Belles a 4 - 2 lead. Emma Knowles put the result beyond doubt with Braytons fifth goal capping off another fine display.
Although Brayton dominated 80% of the match they fell asleep at the start of the second half and almost paid the price. Player of the match went to Fay Hawe for another outstanding display of running and movement. Next week the Belles travel to Scarborough Ladies.
Brayton Belles U12's 2 Wiggington U12's 0
Man of the match Kate Wileman and Kate Murphy were on target to see off a solid Wiggington side in a hard fought game. Wiggington started the brightest putting pressure on the Brayton defence. Katie Parker in the Brayton nets put in another good performance coming off her line on several occasions to snuff out any danger. Ashley Rowe and Megan Hill kept concentration in defence and Brayton started to push forward resulting in a Kate Wilman half volleyed goal 8 minutes before half time.
The second half was dominated by Brayton with Jade Roche and Hannah Priddy both working very hard for the team. The second goal came from a measured pass from Jade Roche for Kate Murphy to run onto and convert. There were several more close chances for Brayton who from this point looked in control. Haylum Tang, Sophie Taylor and Kirsty Huggins also contributed towards Braytons fourth win in a row.
Copmanthorpe 0 - 5 Brayton Belles u15s
Belles started brightly and were always on top. Throughout the 1st half they passed the ball well and created numerous chances. Stacie Moyle, who had a great game, was at her predatory best and took 4 of them brilliantly. Second half was a different story lethargy and
sloppiness prevailed and but for the faultless Laura Stephenson in goal, Copmanthorpe could have scored at least twice. Stacie kept knocking on the door and Chloe Precious scored a good individual goal at the end. Be under no illusion however, Belles must up
their game of they are to be considered title contenders starting next week against high flying Poppleton.
Pickering 1 0 Brayton Belles U14
Brayton dominated this game from start to finish but failed to take advantage, Poppy Brennan, Megan Birch and lucy Parkin all had several chances in the first 10 minutes but failed to score. In defence Priddy,Stainthorpe and Ryan were solid with Hugginns in goal having very little to do. The 2nd half followed the same pattern, Foston, Hodgson and Thompson worked hard but Brayton
were unable to make the breakthrough, Pickering took the lead against the run of play and despite a late rally which resulted in a last minute goal mouth scramble with Brayton claiming
the ball crossed the line, the score remained 1 0.
Belles U11A 3 Poppleton U11 3
Brayton dominated in the first half capped off with another fantastic hat trick from on form striker Ciara McEvoy.
The second half was a classic example of a team taking their foot off the pedal and allowing Poppleton to make an unlikley come back. If it wasn't for some fine saves from the Belles keeper then Poppleton could have taken all the points from this game. In the end a game of two very different halfs and a valuable lesson for this young Belles team. Final score Belles 3 Poppleton 3.

Brayton belles u11As 6 Heworth 1
Brayton soared to the top of the table with an emphatic win over the visitors Heworth. Belles opened their account early on with a superb strike from Evie Smythe but they didn't have time to elebrate as the visitors struck back to equalise from the restart, from then on Brayton went into cruise control, striker Ciara McEvoy had an excellent game rounded off with her first hat-trick of the season.Midfielder Smythe added her second which could be a contender for goal of the season, player of the week Hannah Argyle also made her mark with a cool as you like taken penalty. Keeper Bethany Stephenson was rarely troubled after the visitors reply, midfielder Georgia Southern was always in control throughout and came close to scoring on numerous occasions, while Braytons rear guard of Laura Backhouse, Anya Longster and Zoë Ribchester dealt confidently with any raids mounted by the visitors. Subs Izzie Forth and Chloe Parkin both contributed well when called upon.

Belles U16 4 Preston U16 0
The Belles hit top form after last weeks poor performance against Hull City. Although Preston had the better of the first half Braytons defence held firm. Two early saves from keeper Danielle Thompson and solid defending from Beth and Jenny Shakesby stopped Preston in their tracks. This gave Brayton a sound platform to catch Preston on the break. And this they did with several swift passing moves setting up Laura Sanderson, Fay Hawe and Pippa Burton who all tested the Preston keeper. But it was left to Emma Knowles to put the Belles ahead, running onto a brilliant weighted flick on from Laura Sanderson she placed the ball coolly pasted the on coming keeper. The second half saw the Belles take charge Emma Knowles once again running onto a fine through ball from Becky Howcroft and this time blasting the ball past the diving keeper into the bottom corner. Pippa Burton scored the third speeding through on goal and with the coolness of Thiery Henry slid the ball into the back of the Preston net. The forth goal came from a quick passing move from Emma Cook and Hannah Buck which set up Emman Knowles who drove the ball with power, the keeper couldn't hold on and the ball spun into the net giving Emma yet another hat trick.
Final score Belles 4 Preston 0. Team captain Grace O'Farrell said her team had shown great character and determination after last weeks disappointment.
Brayton Belles U14 4 0 Fulford
Brayton claimed their first win of the season with an impressive performance against Fulford. Fulford had the lions share of possession in the first half, Megan Birch was solid in the center
of defence and Racheal Huggins produced a faultless display in goal.
In the second half Brayton pushed forward with player of the week Rebbeca Ryan controlling midfield, and it was her through ball which Poppy Brennan latched onto to slot home the first goal. Within minutes Brayton were 2 up when Brennan received the ball on the edge of the area before turning and smashing the ball in
the top corner, with renewed confidence Brayton made it 3 when ODonnell threaded a through ball for Brennan who coolly completed her hatrick .Lucy Parkin completed the scoring with a low shot into the bottom corner giving the keeper no chance.

DING DONG GONE WRONG !
Belles U16's faced their toughest test so far in their 11 a side venture against Hull City Ladies. Throughout the first half the Belles were on the back foot with Hull passing the ball with ease. It wasn't long before the Belles were behind from a cross come shot which somehow found its way over the line. Things went from bad to worse as the lack lustre Belles struggled to find the passing and confidence that has seen them win the first three matches of the season. The half time score said it all Belles 0 Hull City 7.
A reshuffle at half time gave the Belles a lift and at last they started passing the ball with much more belief. Which straight away led to a
well struck goal from striker Laura Sanderson after a well worked move from Emma Cook and Fay Hawe. Brayton at times did look equal to Hull especially winger Hannah Buck who battled hard down the right hand side. However on the day Hull were a yard quicker and passed the ball at speed giving the final score of Belles 1 Hull
City Ladies 15. Brayton are still top of the league but have now
played a game more then second place Hull. Next week the Belles take on Preston at home 10:30 KO.
Brayton Belles U12's 5 Poppleton U12's 0
Brayton put in a solid performance against a plucky 6 man Poppleton side. The result was never really in doubt with Katie Parker in the Brayton goal a near spectator. Defenders Ashley Rowe and Megan Hill were rarely threatened but stayed alert to snuff out any danger. The impressive Kate Wileman was pivotal to the result providing some good passes and movement and linking up well with the other midfielders.Move of the game saw her spray a long ball out to Katie Murphy who brilliantly rolled her marker to create room to cross to Man of the match Hannah Priddy who cooly swept the third of her four goal tally home. In form Jade Roche capped off another fine performance with the fifth goal and Sophie Taylor came close to increasing the score on two occasions in the second half.
Haylum Tang had a productive spell in midfield showing her versatility having played defence for most of the season and Kirsty Huggins worked hard on her debut showing some useful bursts of
speed.
Belles U15 v Pocklington 5 - 1
Playing only there second game of the campaign the Belles dominated a hard-working and well organized Pocklington from start to finish. Chloe Precious did well getting into a number of
goal scoring situations to be thwarted by either good goal keeping or bad finishing. Eventually the bombardment payed off when Lotti Johnson grabbed herself a rare goal giving her team a deserved 1 - 0 half time lead. The second half followed the same pattern, debut
girl and player of the week Lauren Lofthouse broke from defence, rode challenges and scored a lovely goal to make it 2. before sloppy
defending let Pock back in momenterily. Stacie Moyle then grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck scoring a majestic hatrick to put the points and a deserved victory beyond doubt.

30th September 2006
Brayton Belles U16 4 Scarborough Ladies 3
The Belles continued their winning start to the season with a fine 4 - 3 win over Scarborough Ladies. Brayton started brightly with Emma Knowles and Pippa Burton both going close early on from fay Hawe crosses. But it was Scarborough who opened the scoring with their first attack giving them a 1 - 0 lead. Brayton rallied and soon forced an own goal to level the match. Just before half time Laura Sanderson hit a powerful drive which went under the diving keeper putting the Belles 2 - 1 up at the break. The second half was end to end throughout and again Scarborough equalised early on. Brayton showed some fantastic teamwork and a well hit cross by Hannah Buck was met by a powerful header from Emma Knowles which gave the keeper no chance. Again Scarborough equalised and looked to have secured a point. However ten minutes from time a Brayton corner was pushed back to Jenny Dunn who shot from distance into the top corner giving the Belles a 4 - 3 lead. Strong defending especially from Denika Yorke ( player of the match ) and Beth Shakesby stopped Scarborough in their tracks giving Brayton their second win of the season. Next week Brayton travel to Middleton. Team - D Thompson, D Yorke, B Shakesby, J
Shakesby, E Cook, B Howcroft, H Buck, E Knowles, F Hawe, J Dunn, P Burton, L Sanderson, G O'Farrell.
Brayton Belles U14 0 3 Bishopthorpe
For the 2nd week running the U14s lost out in a closely fought game, the scoreline does not do the side justice as Brayton had the better chances. Bishopthorpe caught Brayton cold as theyd
scored with there first attack. The Belles responded well with the midfield of Jess Thompson and Poppy Brennan linking up well with
player of the week Parkin seeing her shot hit the post and then cleared of the line. Brayton put the Bishopthorpe defence under
constant pressure and forced the keeper into several fine saves, against the run of play Brayton conceded again to make the score 2-0. Despite Parkin hitting the post again and Ryan and Birch forcing the keeper to make 2 fine saves in the 2nd half Brayton could not find the net for the 2nd week running and went down 3- 0.
Brayton Belles U 11 B 0 Brayton Belles U 11 A10
This was a fine display of football from the A team against the less experienced but highly determined B team. With goals coming from the attacking Georgia Southern (3), Evie Smyth (player of the week) (3) and Ciara McEvoy (2) of the A team made some excellent solo efforts to pressure the improving Autumn Freeman in the B team goal. With the defence of Izzy Hughes & Jessica Senior protected by Giorgia Bromley, Julia Hegarty and Sammy Collier in midfield the B team did very well to keep the score to 3-0 going into half time. Katie Todd and substitutes Imogen Hetherington and Grace Priddy never gave up for the B team but with the solid goal keeping of Beth Stephenson and the excellent defending by Hannah Argyle and Zoe Ribchester strengthened the A teams attacking style to provide further goals from Anya Longster and substitute Chole Parkin

After four years of mini soccer Brayton Belles are now developing 11 - a - side football within their ever growing club. The Belles in their first ever competitive 11 - a - side match got off to a fantastic start. After only 8 minutes the crowd saw the best move of the match has Brayton counter attacked at lightening speed. Emma Knowles then took charge and scored the first of her six goals. The second half began with Hessle Rangers pulling a goal back to give the Belles an early scare. Brayton Belles u11 A 0 Fulford 1
As the score line suggests this game was at times a tense nailbiting encounter. An early goal in the first half proved to be enough to seal victory for Fulford. The commitment and determination by all the Belles players couldn't buy them a goal, as Brayton searched throughout the match for that elusive equaliser to bring them back into the game. As full time approached all the girls were still confident that this was only a minor setback and would bounce back from this frustrating game, in which they deserved to get at least a draw.
Brayton Belles U12's 1 Fulford U12's 0
Brayton won thier first home game of the season in dominant style, but as always with only one goal in it had to endure a late push by Fulford to take all three points. Brayton scored after 6 minutes when central midfielder Kate Wileman hit a low hard shot past
the Fulford keeper following some sustained Brayton pressure.
Shortly after move of the game saw Kate Wileman pass out to man of the match Jade Roche, who beat the Fulford defender and crossed to Sian Mcevoy who hit the ball first time after a well timed run only to see the ball dribble agonisingly close. Katie Parker in the Brayton nets showed her agility with two fine saves as Fulford steadied themselves and started to threaten the Brayton goal.
The second half brough more of the same from Brayton. When Fulford did threaten, the ever improving defence of Ashley Rowe, Megan Hill and Haylum Tang proved dogged and difficult to break
down. Katie Murphy and Hannah Priddy combined well with Kate Wileman and Jade Roche to put together some good passing moves and Sian Mcevoy terrorised the Fulford defence with some dazzling runs. However try as they did the Fulford goal stood firm and some good chances were spurned. This lead to a nervous last 5 minutes when Fulford had three corners in succession. There was a determination by all players to hold on and some good defending made the victory a Brayton one.
Sherburn White rose 2 0 Brayton Belles U14
Brayton U14 started the season with a closely fought battle with Sherburn, the game started at a terrific pace with Sherburn making the early running. Alice Priddy making her debut in defence settled well alongside Birch and Stainthorpe.Sherburn took the lead when the Belles defence failed to deal with a goal kick which fell to Sherburns impressive no10 who smashed the ball past Racheal Huggins in goal. In the 2nd half Brayton pushed hard for the equaliser with player of the week Megan Birch coming close and Poppy Brennan hitting the post. Helen Hodgson and Natalie Foston both made there debuts for Brayton, Sherburn extened there lead
with 3 minutes to go to settle the game.

BELLES BATTLE ON BRAVELY
Brooklyn 0 - 1 Brayton Belles u15
Injury wrecked Brayton battled valiantly against a big physical side and earned a tremendous victory against all odds. All ready down to the bare bones due to injuries they lose key midfielder Lotti Johnson after only a few minutes leaving them to play the majority of the game one player short. Brooklyn huffed and puffed but never really threatened, Brayton eventually took the initiative Stacie Moyle
showing her class and Chloe Precious coming close. Just after the interval Brayton took the lead via a tap in from the improving Chloe, then disaster. Stacie incurred an injury and was unable to play on in the outfield; she bravely went in as a stand in goalkeeper. Laura Stephenson leaving the net to contribute best she could outfield. Heroic defending followed Laura Richardson, Jess Watts and the superb Katie Wood keeping Brooklyn at bay until the final whistle.
Brayton Belles u11A team 4 -2 Poppleton
Belles under 11a's made an impressive start to the new season with a well deserved away win against a tricky Poppleton side. 1st half goals from midfield duo Georgia Southern and Evie Smyth and a superb strike from Caira McEvoy sent Brayton into a comfortable 3-0 half-time lead. McEvoy then added her second and Braytons fourth, early on in the second half. Poppleton replied with 2 late consolation goals just before the end. But take nothing away from Brayton this was a good all round team performance and there will be a hard team to break down in the coming season. A special
thanks to standing keepers Anya Longster and Laura Backhouse who shared the goal keeping responsibilities between them which I might add were both outstanding, and to player of the week Hannah Argyle who played superbly through-out the game.
Fulford 6 0 Brayton Belles u11B
Enjoyment, team spirit and commitment is what has been asked from this very young team this year (with the average age of the team being 8 yrs old) and that is exactly what they gave us on there first outing. Although they were 4-0 down by half time the Belles continued to battle on and created some chances from corners. Sammy Collier has the strength and pace up front with
support coming from Isabelle Hughes, Grace Priddy and Giorgia Bromley and in defense Gemma Robinson and Imogen Hetherington, playing in goals was Autumn Freeman. Although the end result was 6-0 to Fulford the Belles showed great team
Copmanthorpe 3 - Brayton Belles 0
Despite the scoreline there were many positives to take from the Brayton performance. This was a very good game between two attacking sides who liked to pass the ball. Unfortunately the Brayton keeper was unavailable and despite best efforts of the stand ins this along with the woodwork proved to be the difference. Indeed the Copmanthorpe goalkeeper turned in an excellent performance, with three great saves to twice deny Katie Wileman and also Jade Roche.
Companthorpe put away their chances well and scored on 12 minutes with a well worked passing move. Shortly after Brayton applied a solid 5 minutes of pressure. Katie Murphy playing out of position up front harried thier defenders into mistakes, Kate Wileman hit a fine effort to be denied by the Copmanthorpe keeper and Brayton almost immediately then hit the post following
good approach play by Jade Roche, Kate Wileman & Hannah Priddy. However, Brayton were caught backpedalling from thier attack and conceded a well taken second goal from a long goal clerance. Man of the match Megan Hill alongside an excellent Ashley Rowe put in a fine defensive performance in the second half & Haylum Tang proved versatile in both defence and midfield making a promising debut.Brayton continued to attack and the tireless pair of Jade Roche and Kate Wileman both hit the post in quick succession.Sophie Taylor came on and worked hard to close the defecit but it was not to be and Copmanthorpe rounded off a slightly flattering win with the third goal
